Autumn is the season where I feel most like myself. The air gets cooler, the trees turn into a real-life painting, and suddenly I have the urge to add cinnamon to everything I drink. While social media loves showing picture-perfect weekends filled with pumpkin patches and big seasonal adventures, my autumn weekends are a lot simpler—and honestly, that’s exactly how I like them.
They’re made of books, games, yarn, tea, candles, and sometimes doing absolutely nothing (which is still one of the most productive things I’ve learned to give myself permission to do). So today, I thought I’d share what my cozy autumn weekends really look like.
Starting and Ending with Books
If my weekend has one constant, it’s reading. I like to start my mornings with my ereader, while I’m still in bed, blanket cocooned around me. There’s something magical about easing into the day with a story before the world intrudes—no notifications, no emails, just me and a book.
It doesn’t even matter if I only read a chapter. Sometimes it’s just a few pages while I wake up slowly, stretching one hand out for my tea while the other balances the ereader. It feels like the gentlest way to start the day.
At night, I bookend my day with reading again (yes, pun intended). Where morning reading feels dreamy, nighttime reading feels grounding, like the perfect cooldown for my brain. Some nights I stay up far too late because “just one more chapter” has betrayed me again, but I never regret it.
Reading twice a day has turned into my coziest ritual—and autumn makes it extra special, because being under a blanket with a flickering candle just hits different when the air is chilly outside.
Cozy Gaming Moods
Gaming is another weekend staple, and my mood usually decides what kind of cozy I’m aiming for.
On mornings when I want pure comfort, I grab my Switch and dive into Hello Kitty Island Adventure. It’s colorful, gentle, and just ridiculously wholesome. It’s the kind of game that pairs perfectly with a cup of tea and a slow start to the day, and it always makes me smile.
But sometimes my cozy mood looks very different. Recently, I’ve been playing Ghost of Tsushima on PC, and while it’s not “cozy” in the traditional sense, it has its own kind of peace. The quiet exploration, the wind guiding you, the breathtaking landscapes—it feels meditative, like taking a mindful walk through another world.
Switching between the two gives me the best of both worlds: bright cozy vibes when I want lighthearted fun, and deep immersive storytelling when I want something more atmospheric.
Yarn Sprinkled Throughout the Day
Crochet is one of those hobbies that sneaks into my weekends in little bursts. I don’t usually sit down for hours at a time—I just pick up my hook here and there. A few rows while listening to music, a little progress while waiting for something to cook, or a quick project like a tiny pumpkin.
There’s something about autumn that makes crochet even better. Maybe it’s the warm colors I gravitate toward this time of year—burnt orange, deep red, golden yellow—or maybe it’s the fact that blankets and scarves actually feel useful again. Either way, even the smallest project feels cozy when the season matches the yarn in your hands.
Food, Fitness, and the Joy of Doing Nothing
Autumn weekends sometimes pull me into the kitchen. There’s just something about cooking when it’s chilly outside that feels extra comforting. A big pot of soup simmering, pasta bubbling away, cookies in the oven—it makes the whole house smell like comfort.
Other weekends, I’m more in the mood to move around. I’ll squeeze in a workout, not in a “must be productive” way, but because it feels good to balance out all my cozy sitting with some movement. Even just stretching or a quick routine makes me feel refreshed.
And then there are weekends where I… do nothing. At all. I’ll curl up with my blanket and tea, scroll a little, nap a little, crochet a row or two, and not accomplish anything measurable. And to be honest, that might be my favorite kind of productive. Because rest isn’t wasted time—it’s recharging.
Little Self-Care Rituals
My self-care isn’t scheduled—it just sneaks into the day in tiny doses.
- Lighting a candle in the morning.
- Doing my skincare in the evening.
- Putting on comfy clothes after a shower.
- Taking a few minutes to stretch after gaming.
None of these things feel like chores—they’re just little resets that make the day softer.
How the Weekend Winds Down
By evening, I’ll usually reset my space a bit—tidy up, turn on fairy lights, maybe switch out candles. Dinner is usually something simple but comforting, and sometimes I’ll bake, because nothing beats the smell of cookies on a cool autumn evening.
After that, it’s pure cozy chaos. Maybe I play Ghost of Tsushima or Baldur’s Gate for hours. Maybe I crochet while watching a comfort show. Maybe I just curl up with my ereader again. There’s no set plan—it’s whatever feels right that day.
And before bed, I always return to reading. It feels like tucking myself in twice: once under the blanket, and once inside a story.
My Kind of Cozy
If there’s one thing my weekends have taught me, it’s that cozy doesn’t mean perfect. Some weekends are filled with books, others with games, others with naps and tea refills. Some have baking and workouts, others have “I guess I’ll crochet a row and then do nothing else.”
And that’s the beauty of it. Cozy isn’t about fitting into an aesthetic—it’s about following what feels good in the moment. For me, that’s reading first and last, switching between colorful comfort and samurai drama, sprinkling crochet and self-care wherever they fit, and letting rest count as the most productive thing of all.
So if you’re looking for me this autumn, I’ll probably be wrapped in a blanket, controller in one hand, tea in the other, happily doing everything—or nothing at all.
